Kudos to our faculty and alumni!
Catching up on folks' accomplishments....
Theanne Griffith, Assistant Professor of Physiology and Membrane Biology, has been named a UC Davis Faculty Fellow for Public Scholarship and Engagement. Theanne already has received acclaim as an author of children's books. She now turns her attention to nonfiction, with plans to write a book on the science of skin and the dangerous notion that Black people have reduced sensitivity to pain.
Colton Baumler, a graduate student in BMCDB and member of the 2019 PREP cohort, received a 2022 CBS Dean's Mentorship Award. Colton helped to found the UC Davis graduate chapter of SACNAS, gives presentations to PREP scholars and incoming graduate students, and, with MCB faculty member James Letts and Plant Biology faculty member María Maldonado, co-advised the UC Davis 2021 AISES First Nation's Rocket team (thus demonstrating that a bunch of biologists can, erm, guide rocket scientists).
Dan Starr, PREP co-director and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology, received a 2022 Chancellor’s Fellowship for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The award recognizes Dan's exceptional contributions in supporting, tutoring, mentoring, and advising students from historically marginalized communities.
Congratulations to all!
