What we do

In PREP@UC Davis, we prepare postbaccalaureate students from disadvantaged backgrounds and historically marginalized groups (including individuals who have a disability that limits major life activities) to succeed in PhD programs in the biomedical sciences.

PREP@UCD creates a community of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and PREP Scholars. We work together to provide scholars with cutting-edge research tools and experience in conducting hypothesis-driven biomedical research, skills in professional communication, and an environment in which the scholar can grow and self-identify as a scientist.

Appointments in PREP@UCD will consist of 75% research via a Junior Specialist (technician) position in a dedicated mentor’s lab, and 25% professional development through seminars specific to PREP, workshops offered to graduate students more generally, and upper division or graduate coursework.

Scholars will receive a salary of $38,475 (i.e., 75% of the full time salary of $51,300) per year, plus full benefits for the duration of the one-year program.
